VECHERNY PETERBURG (The Evening Petersburg) (until 1991 was known as Vecherny Leningrad), a city newspaper. The newspaper's history traditionally dates back to 17 October 1917, when the first bolshevik evening newspaper Rabochy i Soldat, began to be produced as the organ of the Petrograd Soviet (the publication was suppressed in February of 1918; the editorial office was located at Smolny). In 1918-19 and 1922-36 evening issues of the Krasnaya Gazeta came out. The first issue of the Vecherny Leningrad [founded as the organ of the Leningrad City Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (of Bolsheviks) and the Leningrad Soviet] appeared on 14 December 1945; under the editorship of V. B. Solovyev (first editor). The editorial office was situated at 14 Sotsialisticheskaya (Socialist) Street, later at 59 Fontanka River Embankment. The newspaper came out six times a week and covered various aspects of city life. The greater part of the publications was devoted to the history of Leningrad (sections Panorama, From the History of Our City, supplement Invitation for Travel and others). The literary section published works of F. A. Abramov, Olga Berggolts, Daniil Granin, M. A. Dudin, Nikolay Rubtsov, S. S. Orlov, V. F. Panova, L. V. Uspensky and other authors. In 2002 the newspaper circulated daily except for Monday and Sunday. The editorial office is located at 4 Konnogvardeyskaya Street.
