GERMAN Yury Pavlovich (1910-1967, Leningrad), prose and script writer. Together with his father, an artillery officer, he survived the Civil War, finished school in Kursk. In Leningrad from 1929, studied at the Drama School. His works have been published since 1928, at the age of 17 he wrote the novel Raphael from the Hairdresser's, but he began thinking of himself as a professional man of letters after the publication of the novel Prologue (1931), approved by M. Gorky. He was a delegate of the First Congress of the USSR Writers. The main characters of German's works are chekisty (KGB agents) (a cycle of stories about F.E.Dzerzhinsky - Iron Felix, Lapshin, etc.) and medical men (plays about N.I. Pirogov A Son of the People and A Friend of the People; trilogy The Cause, You Serve, My Dear Man, I'm Responsible For All, 1958-65; etc.). In 1938-51 (except for war-years) he headed the prose department of the journal Zvezda. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45, worked as a reporter for TASS and the Soviet Information Bureau on the Karelian Front and in the Northern Navy. The author of a number of scripts to popular films (Seven Courageous, 1936, director S.A. Gerasimov; Pirogov, director G.M.Kozintsev, Stalin Prize 1948; My Dear Man, 1958, director I.E. Heifits; etc.). To his stories A.Y. German shot films Road Checks and My friend Ivan Lapshin. The author of the historical novel Young Russia (1952). In 1936-48 lived at 25 Moika River Embankment, in 1948-67 at 7 Field of Mars (memorial plaque). Buried at Bogoslovskoe Cemetery.
