ADDRESS DIRECTORIES, reference publications containing information about addresses of people and institutions. The first address book in St. Petersburg Address and Reference Book in Russian, German and French Languages was published in 1809 by G. von Reimers, and contained addresses of residents with indications of their titles, a list of institutions and shops. Numeration of houses was given according to the police system of 1804, uniform for the entire city, from № 1 to № 4600, and also according to the common city system (see Address System). In 1822, S. I. Aller published Directory of houses and buildings in St. Petersburg, in 1823 The directory for finding houses in St. Petersburg, and in 1824 - Appendix to the Address Book. In 1837, K. M. Nistrem compiled an Address book with common city numeration of houses, and in 1844 published The Address Calendar for 1845 (Units 1-3) in Russian and German Languages including lists of residents with indication of their professions, ranks, etc. From 1845 on Address-calendars were published annually by the Heraldry Department of the Senate. In 1867-68 The General Address Book was published. At the end of the 19th century trade Address Calendars appeared. In 1892-1902 the Address Book was published, and in 1902-14 - the address directory entitled The Entire St. Petersburg, in 1914-25 - The Entire Petrograd, and in 1925-35 - The Entire Leningrad. Since 1935, instead of Address directories different telephone directories were published. The business directory Yellow Pages has been published since 1989, Blue Pages appeared in 1990; in 1992 publishing of the Entire St. Petersbur" was resumed but without indicating the addresses of residents.
