Kleigels N.V., chief of the city administration in 1895-1904

KLEIGELS Nikolay Vasilievich (1850, St. Petersburg - 1916, at the same place), statesman, cavalry general (1910). He graduated from Pavlovsky Cadet Corps School and Nikolaevskoe Cavalry School in St. Petersburg (1868). He took part in the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-78. In 1888-95, he was the Chief of Police in Warsaw, in 1895-1904, the head of St. Petersburg administration. During his government the building of Polytechnical institute was completed (1901), along with the construction of Vitebsky railway station (1904), Obstetrics clinical institute (1904) et al. In 1904-05 Kiev, Podolsk and Volynsk governor-general, since 1905 had been in retirement. He owned a house in Pavlovsk (6 Third Matrosskaya Street). Kleigels was buried at Novodevochye cemetery.
