Zaykov Lev Nikolaevich (1923-2002, St. Petersburg), statesman, Hero of Socialist Labor (1971). In 1940, he entered Leningrad factory No. 133 as a mechanic apprentice. He graduated from Leningrad college of engineering and economy (1963), held technical engineering posts at Moscow and Leningrad plants. In 1974 he established and headed scientific research and production association Leninets (Leninist) (State award of the USSR, 1975). In 1976-83 a chairman of Leningrad city executive committee, in 1983-85 the 1st secretary of Leningrad regional party committee of Communist Party of the Soviet Union.In 1985-90 secretary of the Central Committee of Communist Party of the Soviet Union and member of the Political Bureau of Communist Party of the Soviet Union, at the same time in 1987-89 the 1st secretary of Moscow city committee of Communist Party of the Soviet Union. After 1990, the director of the trade promotion office of the holding Leninets company in Moscow, then the adviser to its president. In Leningrad Zaykov resided on 2 Kamennoostrovsky Avenue. He was buried at Serafimovskoe cemetery.
