DRACHEVSKY Daniil Vasilievich (1858-1918), statesman, Major General (1905), Major General of the Suite (1909). Graduated from Konstantinovskoe Artillery College (1876) and from Nikolaevskaya Academy of the General Staff in St. Petersburg (1887). Entered military service in 1876, and participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-78. In 1907-14, he was St. Petersburg Head of City Administration. He was actively engaged in city planning: during his term in office 16 streets were paved, water pipes were installed in Volkova Village, in Bolshaya Okhta and Malaya Okhta and in Krestovsky Island; the tram and the bus were introduced (1907). In his reports for the Emperor Drachevsky had numerous times pointed out serious moral and ecological problems in the city. In 1915 he was tried for peculation, found guilty and imprisoned. He lived in 5 Litseiskaya Street (today Rentgena Street).
