MYTNINSKAYA EMBANKMENT stretching from Kronverksky Avenue to Dobrolyubova Avenue along Kronverksky Channel and the Malaya Neva River in the southern extremity of Petrogradsky Island at the approach of Birzhevoy Bridge. The embankment was built by adding soil in 1870s and 1950s-60s. It was so named in 1882 after Mytny Dvor Customs House situated nearby in the 18th century. The cape that had appeared after adding soil was divided into 12 parts in the early 1880s with house 3 constructed by technician A. A. Stepanov in 1899, house 5 by technician I. Iors in 1883, house 9 by architect K. K. Kochenderfer in 1905, house 11 by civil engineer C. C. Tatski in 1884, and house 13 by architect P. O. Osipov in 1880. Among the residents of Mytninskaya Embankment were poet A. A. Prokofyev who lived at number 5 in 1929-35, microbiologist S. N. Vinogradsky at number 9 in 1890s, and artist I. Y.
