Prosveshcheniya Avenue

PROSVESHCHENIYA AVENUE, between Vyborgskoe Freeway and Rustaveli Street. It goes through First Pargolovo, Shuvalovo - Ozerki, Ruchyi, the main thoroughfare of an extensive area of newly-constructed buildings. The name has been in use since 1970. Residential houses mainly constructed following individual designs, are notable for complicated decor on their facades. Building 40 houses Rimsky-Korsakov Musical School and Children Arts School (1980s, architects L.I. Shimakovsky, A.A. Stolyarchuk, A.A. Morozova). In 1982-83, number 87 was built with noise protection (the project was supervised by architect V.N. Sokolov). This building and building 84, located across the street, house the Severomurinsky Department Store. In the 1980s, the towered building of Elektromera Scientific Research Institute appeared (building 85, 1980s, architect B.A. Ryabinkin, et al.). On Prosveshcheniya Avenue, the Festival Cinema Hall (building 47) and the Prometheus Cinema Hall (building 80) are located. Close to the latter there is a sculpture bearing the same name and symbolising Education (1982, sculptor R.E. Krasnitsky, architect F.K. Romanovsky; building 80/ 2 houses Lenekspo Exhibition Hall; building 89 is a home for Impulse Scientific Development and Production Association. There are two metro stations located on the avenue: Grazhdansky Prospect (1978) and Prospect Prosveshcheniya (1988).
