Categories / City Topography/Urban Network/Avenues

NOVOIZMAILOVSKY AVENUE between Blagodatnaya Street and Konstitutsii Square. It was laid close to the former Korpusnoe Highway in the same direction as one of the three radial roads - Voznesensky Avenue and Izmailovsky Avenue (hence the name translated as New Izmailovsky Avenue). The avenue was built up by workshop No. 6 of the Lenproject Institute with architect S. B. Speransky in charge of the project. The first 12-storied "tower" buildings in Leningrad were erected in Novo-Izmailovsky Avenue. There is also the Meridian Cinema built in 1968, student's dormitory at number 16, nine-storeyed buildings with shops erected by architects I. M. Chayko and S. A. Ushakov in 1960s, and Aviators' Park.
