Narvsky Avenue

NARVSKY AVENUE known as Novo-Peterhofsky Avenue before the 1880s, between Staro-Petergofsky Avenue and Stachek Square. It was named after the town of Narva. The avenue was laid in the first half of the 19th century as a part of Petergofsky Avenue (hence the previous name translated as New Petergofsky Avenue). Apartment houses were built in the avenue between the late 19th century and the early 20th century. House 29/1 situated at the corner of the avenue was formerly occupied by the Metochion of the Holy Assumption Monastery of Staraya Ladoga and now accommodates the Metochion complex of the Valaam Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour. House 7 constructed by architect V. A. Demyanovsky in 1896-97 used to accommodate Narvskoe Refuge of Yasli Society. House 11 was constructed by architect R. A. Gedike for the workers of the Russian-American Rubber Manufactory in 1897-98. Apartment houses 19 to 29 were built in 1900-14. Corner house 2/24 by architect O. R. Minz belonged to V. Y. Zavadovsky. House 31 was constructed by architect N. A. Grodny in 1936 as an example of the Constructivism. Narvsky Domestic Services Shop was erected by architects O. V. Vasilenko and Y. D. Bolotin at number 16-18 in 1970s.
