WEINER Peter Petrovich (1879-1931), public figure, museum worker, collector, full member of the Academy of Arts (1912). He graduated from the Alexandrovsky Lyceum in St. Petersburg (1898); was involved in the activities of the Artists and Architects Society, Russian Art and Antiquity Monuments Protection and Preservation Society. The founder and publishing editor of Starye Gody journal (1907-16), Weiner was also a co-founder of the Museum of Old Petersburg, from 1912 chairing its Board; the museum's collection was enhanced by Weiner's donations of a number of valuable items (engravings by F. Blondel, city plans of Moscow and St. Petersburg, G. Quarenghi's drafts etc.). In the 1910s he was involved in organising of numerous exhibitions. After October of 1917 Weiner became a member of the Gatchina Palace Art Commission. In 1918 re-assumed the position of the Head of the Museum of Old Petersburg, which operated as a Department of the City Museum. Within 1918-25 was repeatedly arrested and in 1924 exiled to the Urals for three years. Upon his return to Leningrad in 1928 he worked in the Hermitage. In 1930 Weiner was arrested on charges of counter-revolutionary activities and sentenced to death. He was executed on 2 January 1931. A memorial plaque was set on his house at 38 Chaykovsky Street.
