PANIN-KOLOMENKIN (real name Kolomenkin) Nikolay Alexandrovich (1871-1956, Leningrad), athlete, coach, Merited Master of Sports (1940). He lived in St. Petersburg since 1885. He graduated from Department of Mathematics and Mechanics of St. Petersburg University (1898). Panin-Kolomenkin was one of the first to develop the theory of figure-skating. He was the only Olympic champion (1908) in Russia (before 1917), 5-times figure-skating champion of Russia (1901-03, 1905, 1907), repeated Russian champion of rifle and pistol shooting. In 1915-17 he was the secretary of the Russian Olympic Committee. From the end of the 1930s he served as the head of the Figure-Skating Higher Coaching Courses at Lesgaft Institute of Physical Culture. In 1942-45 he lived in evacuation. Panin-Kolomenkin was buried in Serafimovskoe Cemetery.
