Dume Restaurant

DUME RESTAURANT (15 Malaya Morskaya Street / 7 Gorokhovaya Street). Opened in the early 1820s by Andrieux, a former French Prisoner of War of 1812 who stayed in Russia. D. V. Venevitinov, F. V. Bulgarin and other literati dined at Andrieux's, but French visitors prevailed. In the late 1820s, Andrieux returned to France, and his compatriot Dume became the establishment's owner; in the mid-1830s, Dume's widow took over. Connoisseurs of French cuisine gathered at Dume Restaurant and banquets were regularly arranged there. The literary dinner given by A. F. Smirdin on 19 February 1832 in his bookshop to celebrate his housewarming was catered by Dume. Alexander Pushkin visited Dume Restaurant, and became acquainted there with G. Dantes in 1834. In the 1840s, Dume Restaurant was closed down. Today its premises house the Da Vinci Restaurant and Club.
