BOGDANOVSKY Evstafy Ivanovich (1833-1888, St. Petersburg), surgeon. He graduated from the Medical Surgical Academy (1858). Bogdanovsky was a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery (1861), trained in the clinics of Germany, Austria, France, and Great Britain (1861-63). He was made professor in 1867 and was in head of the chair and Clinic of Military Hospital Surgery of the Medical Surgical Academy - Military Medical Academy (1870-88), where he created the first experimental surgical laboratory (1870). He participated in the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-78. Bogdanovsky was an outstanding diagnostician and skilled surgeon. He was the first person in Russia to remove the larynx and the pylorus successfully. He authored over 19 scientific publications. Under his supervision 17 doctor's dissertations were completed. He died at the operation table in his own clinic (3 Pirogovskaya Embankment; memorial plaque the bronze bust by the sculptor S.O. Tselinsky in the vestibule, 1891). In 1870-88 Bogdanovsky lived at 15 Saperny Lane, 7 Mokhovaya Street and 27 Furstadtskaya Street. He was buried in Tikhvinskoe Cemetery (in 1936 he was reburied in Literatorskie Mostki Cemetery).
