LAVROV Sergey Borisovich (1928, Leningrad - 2000, St. Petersburg), geographer, received a Ph.D. (geography) in 1968 and Honoured Worker of Science of the Russian Federation in 1998. He graduated from Leningrad State University with a major in geography in 1951 and worked there from 1954, becoming a professor in 1970. He wrote works on the theory of human geography, foreign geography, political geography, and geopolitics, as well as rare textbooks on human geography for higher and secondary education institutions. He was the deputy chairman of the Commission for National Policy and International Relations for the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in 1988-91 and the president of the Russian Geographical Society from 1995 to 2000. He lived at 22 Skorokhodova Street in 1928-60 and 10 Veselnaya Street from 1960. Buried at Serafimovskoe Cemetery.
