DUKHOV Nikolay Leonidovich (1904-64) was a weapons engineer and Lieutenant General (1954), Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1953), Hero of Socialist Labour (1945, 1949, and 1954). He graduated from Leningrad Polytechnic Institute in 1932 and worked at Kirov Factory. In 1940, he was appointed to head Tank Unit No. SKB-2. He was evacuated to Chelyabinsk in 1941 where he organized manufacturing of tanks and was in charge of building KV and IS heavy tanks. Later he took part in Soviet atomic and thermonuclear projects. He was awarded Stalin Prizes and State Prizes (1945, 1949, 1951, 1953, 1954), and the Lenin Prize (1960). A commemorative plaque in his honour was placed on the main building of Polytechnic University (29 Politekhnicheskaya Street) - .
