SEDOV Georgy Yakovlevich (1877-1914), hydrographer and polar explorer, lieutenant (1912). He graduated from the Naval Cadet Corps in 1901. In 1908, he was assigned to the Chief Hydrographic Administration in St. Petersburg. He took part in a number of hydrographic expeditions to the Arctic Ocean. In 1912, he launched an expedition to the North Pole, which started from Arkhangelsk on board of the Svyatoy Muchenik Foka vessel and reached Franz Josef Land in 1913. Sedov died not far from Rudolf-Island while trying to reach the North Pole by dog sledge. In St. Petersburg, he lived at 15 Kosaya Street. In 1940, the name of Sedov was given to a street in Nevsky District, which linked a number of pre-existing passages.
