ARCHANGEL MICHAEL CATHEDRAL, located at 61 Dvortsovy Avenue, Lomonosov. A monument of Neo-Russian architecture built in 1911-14 (architect A.K. Minyaev) to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty. The cathedral was built on the site of a three-alter wooden chapel built on the initiative of Archpriest G.M. Lyubimov in 1865-67 (architect G.A. Preys) to celebrate the memory of the owner of Oranienbaum, Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich. In 1902, the wooden church was transformed into the cathedral, and in 1905-07 a three-tier stone belfry was built. The new Archangel Michael Cathedral was made of stone and possesses a large dome, the walls have narrow windows, set inside arches. The iconostasis was made by carver Polushkin from the town of Kashin, from Tver Province, and the icons were painted by artist A.G. Yakovlev from the town of Bezhetsk of the same province. In 1932, the cathedral was closed, and its building was used as a storehouse. In 1988, the church was the first in the Eparchy to be returned to the faithful. In 1992, it was consecrated according to full religious rites.
