TRAITTEUR VASILY KARLOVICH (WILHELM, GUILLAUME) (1788-1859), engineer, lithographer, Major General (1830). Immigrant from Germany. In 1814-1831, he was in the Russian service. In 1816, he created the first lithograph in Russia. From 1818, he was a member of the Committee for Buildings and Hydraulic Works, and assistant to A.A. Bethencourt (before 1823), under whom he participated in the establishment of the Expedition for the Provision for State Papers (1815-1818), the St. Isaac's Bridge (1819-21), barracks at Pelle on the outskirts of St. Petersburg (1819), and buildings for the Construction School (1820). He is one of the creators of the Bolshoy and Maly Konushenny and Theatre bridges (see articles). He planned and built (together with V.A. Khristianovich) the Panteleimonovsky, Egyptian, Pochtamtsky, Bankovsky and Lviny hanging bridges in St Petersburg (see entries). He designed wooden arch bridges on the St. Petersburg - Moscow Highway (beginning in 1820). He created albums and single works of engineering lithographs. In 1830, he announced his resignation because of a conflict with the service, and left Russia.
