SCHLUTER Andreas (1659-1714, St. Petersburg), sculptor, architect, designer. Studied and worked in Berlin, later in Warsaw. In 1713, by invitation of Peter the Great, came to St. Petersburg and was appointed building director, predominantly engaged in project organisation. He designed the sculptural friezes and reliefs on the walls between the windows and the bas-reliefs above the central entrance in the Summer Palace of Peter the Great, as well as the wooden fretwork in the vestibule and the carved staircase balusters. Schluter's name is thought to be associated to the construction of Menshikov's palaces in St. Petersburg and Oranienbaum, as well as the Mon Plaisir Palace in Peterhof. Schluter lived in Peter the Great's Summer Palace. Buried at the Sampsonievskoe Nonorthodox Cemetery (the tomb has not survived).
