FOMIN Ivan Alexandrovich (1872-1936), architect, graphic artist, historian and theorist of architecture. I.I. Fomin's father. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts (1909), L.N. Benois' disciple; from 1915 was conferred the title of associate academy member, lectured at the Academy and in the Polytechnic Institute. Fomin is considered one of the founders of Neoclassicism in Russian architecture: Polovtsov's summer cottage, the mainframe of S.S. Abamelik-Lazareva's mansion at 23 Moika River Embankment (1913-15), devised the development project of Goloday Island, New Petersburg (in collaboration with architect F.I. Lidval, 1911-12, not completed). Organized Historical Architecture Exhibitions (1911), author of the architecture sections in I.E. Grabar's History of Russian arts. In 1919, he headed the architectural workshop for the Petrograd City Adjustment Plan. Also developed the planning project of the parterre garden on the Field of Mars (1920-23). In 1911-32, lived at 29 Kadetskaya (Syezdovskaya) Line of Vasilievsky Island, (memorial plaque). Since 1933, resided in Moscow.
