PEREDERY, Grigory Petrovich (1871-1953), engineer, bridge construction expert, associate academy member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1943; corresponding member from 1939), director general of communications and construction of the first rank. Graduated from the Engineering Institute of Transport Communications (1897), lectured there (in 1907-14 and in 1920-42; from 1920, conferred the title of professor, chair of Bridges department in 1921 assumed the office of rector), in 1902-05 and 1926-30, lecturer's post at Moscow Engineering School (academy); in 1923-27, designated rector of the Institute of Civil Engineering; in 1941-44, faculty chair of the Novosibirsk Institute of Railway Transport. Devised over 30 projects for large concrete and metal bridges (over the Volkhov, Moscow, Dnepr, Vologda, Ob rivers), including the Volodarsky and Lieutenant Schmidt bridges over the Neva River. Conceptualized the girder truss theory. Author of over 80 scientific works, including a fundamental course on bridge design and construction. Laureate of the Stalin's Prize, second class (1943). In the 1930s lived at the 5 Dmitrovsky Lane.
