PEHL Alexander Khristoforovich (1809, St. Petersburg 1902, ibidem), architect. Graduated from the Academy of Arts (1833), associate academy member of architecture (1847), adherent of late Neoclassicism and Eclecticism. Assisted architect А.А. Montferrand in the project of St. Isaac's Cathedral and Alexander's Column. Erected over 70 apartment buildings in St. Petersburg, predominantly in the Liteiny Avenue area. His most significant constructions are considered to be the mansion of Prince S.S. Gagarin at 52 Bolshaya Morskaya Street (see Polovtsev Mansion), the residential houses along Liteiny Avenue (27, 32, 34, 44, 45, 46), at the 22 Mokhovaya Street, 29 Gorokhovaya Street, 16 Stremyannaya Street etc. (all of them are dated by the 1840-60s), laid out the garden of the Y.V. Willie Clinic on Botkinskaya Street. Buried at Volkovskoe Lutheran Cemetery (the grave is not intact).
