KATONIN Evgeny Ivanovich (1889–1984), architect, graphic artist, member of the Academy of Architecture of Ukraine (1956). Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts (1918). He participated in the implementation of the Monumental Propaganda Plan, worked on the restoration of many buildings (the Winter Palace, Stock Exchange building). In 1926, he took a decisive part in organization of the Moskovsky Avenue development: Frunzensky department store, apartment house No.106, etc. After the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45 he was one of the authors of Moscow Victory Park project, the reconstruction of the park; the public garden at Arts Square and Klenovaya Alley (1946–48). From 1948, he worked in Kiev. He was an active participant of the restoration of cities destroyed during the war, and consistently followed the Neo-Classical principles of urban planning.
