LVINY (LION'S) BRIDGE ("four lions bridge"), over Griboedov Canal, links the Lviny Lane with Malaya Podyacheskaya Street. It was built in 1825-26 (engineers V.K. Traitteur, V.А. Khristianovich) as a chain pedestrian bridge with four lions supporting the chains (cast iron, sculptor P.P. Sokolov - hence its name). The lampposts are set in the middle section of the bridge on the cast iron railings, which around 1880 were replaced with a wrought railing. In 1948-49, the wooden deck stringers were replaced with metal ones (engineer А.М. Yanovsky). In 1954, the cast iron railing and lanterns were restored (architect А.L. Rotach). In 1999-2000, the suspended beams were replaced with a girder deck (the chains were removed), the frames, supporting chains were repaired, the lion figures restored. Length: 27.8 metres, width: 2.2 metres. D. Y. Guzevich, S. Z. Suponitsky, N.M. Kozlovskaya.
