Italyansky Bridge

ITALYANSKY BRIDGE, over the Griboedova Canal, opposite to Italyanskaya Street (hence the name). Constructed on the site of a ferry station (crossing) in 1896 as a pedestrian bridge (engineer L.N. Kolpitsyn) with a span frame consisting of ten plank girders. In 1912, the girders were replaced with a stone strut-supported construction (engineer K.V. Efimyev). In 1937, it was rebuilt as a pedestrian bridge and to transport water, was completely rebuilt in 1955 (engineer А.D. Gutzeit, architect V.S. Vasilkovsky); it has a steel curvilinear beam deck and rich architectural decor. In 1996, the Venetian lanterns and the bridge railing were restored. Length: 21.3 metres, width: 3 metres.
