BANKOVSKY BRIDGE, spanning Griboedov Canal, by the building of the former Assignation Bank (hence the name). Built in 1825-26 (engineer V.K. Tretter) as a chain footbridge with four cast iron griffin figures (sculptor P.P. Sokolov). In 1951-52, the framework of the bridge was replaced with metal, hidden behind a wooden facade; the lamps and forged metal barrier were renewed, in 1967 and 1988 the gilding on the griffins’ wings was replaced. In 1997, restoration and repairs were carried out on the lattice railing. Length 25.2 metres, width 1.9 metres. D. Y. Guzevich, S. Z. Suponitsky, N. M. Kozlovskaya.
