HOUSE OF KOCHUBEY (7 Konnogvardeisky Boulevard), an architectural monument. At the beginning of the 18th century at this place the Rope Yard of the Main Admiralty was located. In the 1790s a stone building was constructed for admiral V.P. von Dezin (architect unknown), and in 1853-1857 it was reconstructed in the Italian Renaissance style for Prince M.V. Kochubey (architect G.A. Bosse). The gala apartments are located on the first floor and illuminated with large Venetian windows. The outer yard is enclosed by a metal fence with a gate, decorated with four marble Moors' busts. Of great artistic value are the interiors of the sitting-rooms enfilade (Blue, Red, Musical and others), decorated in various 18th century styles with wooden panels, gilded modelling, picturesque panels (one of them was created by painter S. Ricci), carved doors and marble fireplaces. In 1868, a floor was built on the outbuilding, the winter garden was replaced with a gala dining-room with caisson ceiling and caryatids (architect K.F. Muller). Since 1868, the house belonged to the family of Merchant F.P. Rodokanaki, after October of 1917 it was occupied with different establishments (in 1961-88, there was the Beauty institute). In 1993-96, the building was restored, outbuildings were changed to offices, and the inner courtyard was closed and transformed into a restaurant (architect A. P. Konov).
