GRABBE HOUSE (40 Griboedova Canal Embankment), a monument of Baroque architecture, a rare example of a residential house of the mid-18th century. It was built in the 1750s (architect unknown), named after the family name of one of the first owners - M.M. Grabbe; originally it consisted of three stories. The main facade faces the canal and is decorated with Corinthian pilasters; its windows are framed with Baroque aprons; the wall surface is filled with decorative details. The enclosing pattern is distinguished by a strict symmetry to the central axis (the original interiors have been lost). In the 1810s-20s, a tavern At the Kamenny Bridge with hotel rooms was situated in the house. In 1838, a fourth storey was added (architect A.M. Camuzzi), the style simulating Baroque. In 1956, there was a reconstruction during which some floor coverings were remade.
