CURTAIN AND LACE COMPANY (25 Chapaeva Street), an open joint-stock company, the largest national enterprise manufacturing curtain cloth, lace, and lacery. Founded in 1837 as the St. Petersburg Tulle Factory, it was the first factory in Russia to manufacture tulle, tulle veils, table cloth, scarves, and blinds. A drawing department was established in the 1870s to design tulle patterns. The factory was awarded top prizes at numerous industrial fairs. Nationalised after October 1917, the enterprise was named after revolutionary K. N. Samoylova (1876-1921). Specialising in arms components and camouflage nets during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45, the plant resumed the manufacture of lacery after the war. The Factory was reorganized as Leningrad Curtain and Lace Company in 1974. Its products were sold throughout the country and exported to Finland, Poland, Mongolia, Vietnam, and Cuba. The Factory became a joint-stock company in 1993. In 2000 the range of goods produced by the company included over 170 kinds of curtain cloths and patterns such as blinds, table cloths, fancy and mosquito nets.
