KRASNY TREUGOLNIK (138 Obvodny Canal Embankment), an open joint-stock company, an enterprise making footwear from polymer materials. It was founded in 1860 by Hamburg merchant F. Krauskopf and his companions as the Russian-American Rubber Manufacture Association (since 1908 it was called Treugolnik). The main products of the plant were rubber overshoes (in the period from 1900 to 1912 its production increased from 10 million to 20 million pairs; up to 25% of the products were exported). The plant also produced machine belts, pipes for pipelines, discharge valves and faucets, isolation, medical instruments, etc. Up to the late 19th century the plant was country monopolist in this sector of the market, in the 20th century it was the largest enterprise of rubber goods production in Russia and Europe. During WW I (1914-18) it produced automobile tyre casings, gas masks, and artillery buffers. In 1918 the plant was nationalised, and called State Plant of Rubber Industry № 1, and since 1922 - Krasny Treugolnik. In the 1920s the plant dealt with tire and tube repair, restarted production of pre-war products, and then mastered the production of technical devices for aviation and tractor-building, metallurgy, car, paper and printing industries, railways and other branches of economy. In addition to manufacturing overshoes the plant made work boots and athletic footwear. In the 1930s the plant started manufacturing goods made of synthetic rubber. In the pre-war period the enterprise was divided into a number of production units, the biggest of them being Krasny Treugolnik footwear plants, and Promtekhnika industrial plant (which was later called the Technical Rubber Products Plant, FRP). During the Siege of 1941-44 aerostats, pontoons, flame gun sleeves, and military hardware were produced using the remaining equipment. The enterprise suffered greatly in air raids and bombardments, its reconstruction started in 1944. In 1960 the annual production of rubber shoes increased to 80 million pairs a year. In 1962 Krasny Treugolnik and FRP plant merged with Krasny Treugolnik production enterprise, which became an independent enterprise again after the privatization process (1994).
