TURUKHTANNYE ISLANDS, an area to the south-west of St. Petersburg, in the zone of the coal harbour of the seaport. The name comes from waterlogged islands that existed on this site before the 1930s, but merged with the mainland. In the early 20th century, the Nikolaevskaya freight railway line leading to mooring berths was constructed in the south-east of the locality. Today, Turukhtannye Islands are located on the territory of St. Petersburg Seaport and feature an Oil Terminal, Timber Mole, Fish Port, Shipbreaking Plant and other enterprises. The place name has been preserved in the name of Doroga na Turukhtannye Ostrova Street.
