TORIKI, an area to the south-west of St. Petersburg, to the west of Gorelovo railway station, along Anninskoe Freeway. In the early 18th century, Konstantinovka village was located on this site. It replaced khutora (farmsteads), populated with Finns by Swedish authorities in the 17th century. Since the late 18th century, there was an artillery exercise ground and a shooting-range, where troops quartered in camps of Krasnoe Selo trained in the summer time. In 1859, the railway line to Krasnoe Selo was constructed along the east part of Toriki. In the course of its construction, open pits were formed (one of them is Gorelovskoe Lake) In 1933-37, a residential town for the military was developed to the south of Anninskoe Freeway. Today there is the Military College of Radio Electronics of Air Defence and the north part of the territory is occupied with an extensive horticultural establishment.
