Murzinka

MURZINKA, a river in the north-east of St. Petersburg. In the 1720s, it was named after a country house of the same name. The length is about five kilometres, the width varies from one to three kilometres, at its mouth up, and it is about six metres wide, with a depth of up to a metre. The catchment basin is about 31 km2. Water discharge at mouth is 0.2 cubic metres per second. It flows from a small lake among swamps to the south of Lensovetovsky Sovkhoz (state farm), flows into the Neva River at Rybatsky. The lower section within the limits of St. Petersburg represents a system of small saucer-like widening of the river-bed, connected with channels. An automobile bridge on Obukhovskoy Oborony Avenue and three railway bridges span the Murzinka. In the lower stream, Murzinskaya Street goes along the left bank.
