ALEXANDROVSKY PARK (Pushkin town), a landscape monument, situated to the west of Catherine Park, forming a part of the Tsarskoe Selo palace park ensemble and comprising of 120 hectares. The old regular part (the New Garden) was laid out in the 1750s (supposedly architect S.I. Chevakinsky, N. Girard), and is divided by Krestovy Canal into four squares with entertainments: the so-called Skarpir (the Slide Hill); the Chinese Theatre (1778-79, architect A. Rinaldi, I.V. Neelov); Parnassus Hill and the Water Works. The Cross, the Chinese, the Dragon Bridges, and other bridges cross the canal (the 1770s, architect Neelov). The Chinese Village complex is situated to the south of the New Garden. The landscape park was laid out in the 1790s simultaneously with the construction of Alexandrovsky Palace on the territory. A menagerie was located in the park during the reign of Empress Elizaveta Petrovna (fragments have been preserved of limiting bastions and canals). Artificial ponds were added to the landscape part of Alexandrovsky Park: the Children's Pond, where there was a pavilion for the children of Emperor Nicholas I on an island, in addition to the Nizhny, Vittolovsky and Lamsky Ponds. Decorative pavilions were constructed in various parts of the park by projects of architect A.A. Menelas in the 1820-30s: the White Tower (1821-27; destroyed in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45, restored in the 1990s); Arsenal (1819-34 - on the site of Mon Bijou pavilion, built by architect S.I. Chevakinsky 1747-54); the Chapel (1825-28) built in Pseudo-Gothic style. The palace greenhouses built in the Classic style are situated in front of the Chapel (1819-28). Kuzminka River partitioned with a dam flow in the west part of the Alexandrovsky Park. The Lamsky (Llama) House is situated near the weir (1822) and the Imperial Stable (1827-29) for old Imperial horses. The former was designed for llamas presented to Emperor Alexander I (a photolaboratory was situated there under Emperor Nicholas II). The Feodorovsky settlement complex, the Ratnaya Palata and other buildings in the Neo-Russian style of the early 20th century are situated to the north of Alexandrovsky Park.
