NOVO-ADMIRALTEYSKY ISLAND, translated as New Admiralty Island, situated between the Bolshaya Neva River, Moika River, and Novo-Admiralteysky Canal. It was a part of Usadishche Island until the early 18th century. It was formed after Admiralteysky Canal was laid in 1720. There was the Galley Yard with a shipyard and stores of victuals situated in the island from the early 18th century. The Main Admiralty Shipyard was moved here in 1800 and renamed as New Admiralty (hence the name of the island). There were two canals dug through in the island in 1716-17. They were buried in the early 19th century and the early 20th century. Today, the whole island is occupied by Admiralteyskie Verfi Company. In 1998-2000, St. Nicholas Chapel was built of stone in place of the demolished Christ the Saviour Church.
