Gryazny Island

Categories / City Topography/Geographical Objects/Islands

GRYAZNY ISLAND situated between the Olkhovka River and the Ekaterinhofka River, south of where the Tarakanovka River flows into the latter. The name dates back to 1838. It was then known as Bolshoy Gryazny Island renamed as Gryazny Island after Maly Gryazny Island disappeared in the early 20th century. The north of the island was annexed to the mainland in 1930s so that the former Vnutrenny (Inland) Canal now washed the island in the north. The area of the island is occupied by industrial enterprises such as the Hydrolysis Plant.
