Categories / City Topography/Geographical Objects/Islands

ADMIRALTEYSKY ISLANDS, two islands, first and second, situated in the centre of St. Petersburg between the Bolshaya Nevka River and the Moika River. The first Admiralteysky Island is between Lebyazhy Canal and Winter Canal and Second Admiralteysky Island is between Winter Canal and Novo-Admiralteysky Canal. It was a single island until 1713, which was called Usadishche and it was where the Main Admiralty and Admiralty Shipyard were established in 1704 (hence the name). Back in the 18th century, the name of Admiralteysky Island also covered the Summer Garden, New Holland, and Novo-Admiralteysky Island.
