Categories / City Topography/Waterways and Currents/Canals

GREBNOY CANAL (Rowing Canal) is located in the northern part of Krestovsky Island in Primorsky Victory Park at the place of the former Vinnovka River. In 1938, the Grebnoy Canal was projected to be 2 km in length and run from the head of the Srednaya Nevka River at the Kirov Stadium to the 2nd Elagin Bridge. The Grebnoy Canal (1.6 km long and 40 m wide) constructed in 1958-60 flows from the Kirov Stadium along the left bank of the Srednaya Nevka (drains in the Srednaya Nevka in the area of the yacht-club.) The Grebnoy Canal has formed two small islands at the Srednaya Nevka mouth - Bezynayanny and Bychy - used for boats and yacht garages. The Park's northern road runs parallel to the canal from the south. The Grebnoy Canal is used for sports training and competitions.
