TENTELEVKA (Olkhovka), a river in the west of St. Petersburg in the area of Nevskaya Zastava, formerly a tributary to the Tarakanovka River. It was named after the village of Tentelevo which was situated in this area in the 18th century; the other name of the river is associated with the vegetation growing along the banks of the river. The majority of the river channel was filled in the mid-20th century. At present the river converges with the Ekaterinhofka River; at the convergence of the rivers there is the artificial Bolshoy Gryazny Island, which was designed to be a square in the original plans. The river is about one kilometre long and 15-25 metres wide, with the depth approaching four metres. The banks of the river accommodate industres. Olkhovka was also the name for a channel between Gutuevsky island and Bolshoy Rezvy Island, which was filled in during the mid-20th century, when the islands were merged into one.
