IVANOVKA, a river in the south-west of St. Petersburg, in the area of Sosnovaya Polyana and Ligovo. It was named in the 19th century after the village of Ivanovskaya. The river used to flow from the headwaters, located in the marshes westwards of Staropanovo, into the Neva Bay. The river is 4.3 kilometres long and 2-6 metres wide at mean-water. The depth of the river reaches one metre. After land reclamation of the river, the Ivanovka remained between Narodnogo Opolcheniya Avenue and Chekistov Street in the form of elongated narrow ponds, linked with channels. The landscaped banks of the river are planted with trees. Dobrovoltsev Street and Zdorovtseva Street run along the river. Part of the water is drained into Dudergofsky Canal, whereas the river-valley is used for the purpose of recreational development.
