Gorely Stream

GORELY, a stream that flows in the north-east of St. Petersburg, near Rzhevka, leading it to be called Rzhevka River on occasion. The stream is a tributary of the Lubya River which forms part of the to the Okhta river basin. The name has been in use since the late 18th century. The stream flows from the marshes near Novo-Devyatkino village and runs south-eastwards of the Okhta River. Gorely stream is about 12 kilometres long, with the width reaching up to 50 metres. Within the limits of St. Petersburg, a motor bridge was laid across the stream in the alignment of Rzhevskaya Street. Some parts of the banks of the stream are used for horticulture. The lower reaches of the stream accommodate Porokhovskoe Cemetery which stretches along the right bank of Gorely Stream; the cemetery borders on Andreevskaya Street, Krasina Street and Ryabovskoe Freeway.
