On August 1930, a small airborne unit for the first time parachuted near Voronezh to perform a tactical task during the field training. This date is recognized as the date of establishment of the Airborne Troops.
The first Airborne Units of the Red Army – the Airborne Troops – were established and developed in Pushkin in 1929-1940 starting with the first Special Purpose Air Unit and ending with the 201st Leningrad Airborne Brigade of Guards named after S.M. Kirov.
