PUSHKIN MEMORIAL MUSEUM APARTMENT (12 Moika River Embankment) is a branch of the All-Russian Pushkin Museum. The museum was established in 1925-27 in the flat where the poet spent the last four months of his life from September 1836. The first exposition was prepared under the guidance of M. D. Belyaev. Seven rooms and a part of the front staircase were reconstructed in 1937 according to the plan drawn by V. A. Zhukovsky after Pushkin's death and according to other documents. The main rooms were restored in the course of the renovation project of 1982-87. Restoration of the appearance of Pushkin’s last flat was continued in 1995-99. Original things of the Pushkin family are on display in all the rooms, which include an antechamber, a scullery, a living room, a bedroom, a nursery, rooms of Goncharov sisters, and a study. The poet's study is the central part of the exposition where one can see a writing-table, an armchair, a desk, shelves with books and a sofa on which Pushkin passed away at 2.45 on 29 January (old style: 10 February), 1837. A waistcoat, which Pushkin wore on the day of the duel, his death-mask and a medallion with a lock of his hair are among the relics. A memorial plaque was installed on the house front in 1880. The museum was reopened in 1949. A monument to the poet was opened in the yard on 5 October, 1952 (sculptor N. V. Dydykin, architect N. A. Medvedev). Annually the museum commemorates the Day of Poet's Memory on 10 February.
