MOSKOVSKY RAILWAY STATION (in 1855-1924 Nikolaevsky Railway Station) (located at 2 Vosstaniya Square), was built in 1844-51 by architect K.A. Ton. A commemorative plaque in his memory appears on the facade. The central part of the facade is decorated by two levels of Corinthian Order columns and crowned by a 2-storied clock tower. There are two gates with passages to train platforms under roof. Storage facilities and administrative premises and other facilities were located along the sides of the train shed. In 1950-52 and 1967 Moskovsky Railway Station interiors were reconstructed (the facade remaining unchanged) according to the project by architect V.I. Kuznetsov. A bust of Lenin by sculptor L.A. Mess was installed in the big hall on a high pedestal and in 1993 replaced by Peter the Great bronze bust by sculptors A.S. Charkin and V.V. Olenev. Moskovsky Railway Station serves destinations in the southern and eastern directions and some westbound services. Krasnaya Strela train departed for the first time from Moskovsky Railway Station in 1931. One of the entrance vestibules of Mayakovskaya metro station leads to Moskovsky Railway Station. In 2002, the building of Moskovsky Railway Station was restored.
