KUSHELEVKA, Manor of the Kushelev-Bezborodko Family (40 Sverdlovskaya Embankment), a monument of architecture and landscaping of the 18th -19th centuries. In the middle of the 18th century on this territory there was a tree nursery, bestowed to G.N. Teplov in 1773, who had constructed a stone two-storied building by 1777. In 1782, A.A. Bezborodko became the owner of the manor. In 1783-1787 the building was totally reconstructed (architect G. Quarenghi, according to other sources - N.A. Lvov), around it a 25 hectare landscape park with decorative structures was laid out. The manor house in the style of early Neoclassicism is flanked with two round turrets featuring the semicircular colonnade, surrounding the yard. On the embankment in front of the house a wharf with granite sphinxes was laid out. In the middle of the 19th century, the yard from the side of embankment was decorated with a chain fence, supported by 29 lions. After Bezborodko's death his niece, Princess K.I. Lobanova-Rostovskaya, lived in the mansion, she raised her sister's son - A.G. Kushelev, who from 1816 was Count Kushelev-Bezborodko. Since the 1830s, the territory was divided up (the park ceased to exist at the end of the 19th century). In the 1840-1850s, on the territory of the mansion a popular resort hall of Polyustrovsky mineral waters functioned. In 1855-70, the mansion was owned by Count G. A. Kushelev-Bezborodko, among his guests were I. A. Goncharov (1856) and A. Dumas pere (1858). In 1896, the manor house was given over to the Elizavetinsky Nurses Society, nowadays it is a patient care institution. In 1960-1962, restoration work was carried out.
