COMMITTEE FOR CONSTRUCTION AND WATER WORKS was the state institution created in May 1816 on the initiative of A. A. Bethencourt for consideration of development, urban planning, and improvement projects of St. Petersburg. The committee was headed by: Bethencourt (until 1824), P.P. Bazen (until 1834), A. D. Gotman. Its members were architect K.I. Rossi, V.P. Stasov, A.A. Mikhailov, A.P. Bryullov, V.I. Beretti, A.K. Maudui, V.K. Traitteur, etc. During the Committee work, the most significant ensembles of the city centre were created. In 1842, the Committee was joined to the Main Office of Communications and Public Buildings.
