POLYARNAYA ZVEZDA (The Polar Star), literary almanac (pocket book for lovers of Russian literature), published by А. А. the Bestuzhev (Marlinsky) and K. F. Ryleev. The years 1823, 1824, 1825 saw a release of three editions, however the fourth one (for the year 1826) compiled and printed never appeared due to the events of 14 December, 1825 (Decembrists Revolt). Among others V. А. Zhukovsky, Alexander Pushkin, А. S. Griboedov, Ivan Krylov, А. А. Delvig, N. I. Gnedich, P. А. Pletnev contributed for the almanac. Its literary orientation was much dominated by Bestuzhev's Reviews, who advocated the aesthetic principles of the Romantic Movement in literature. With a clear Decembrist orientation, the Polyarnaya Zvezda produced a polemic environment for the liberally spirited F. V. Bulgarin, O. I. Senkovsky, N. I. Grech. In 1824-25 the editorial office was accommodated in the house of the the Russo-American Company at 72 Moika River Embankment.
