CIRCLE OF LVOV AND DERZHAVIN, a union of writers, artists and composers formed at the end of the 1770s round N. A. Lvov. The staff of its participants was determined by the unity of aesthetic views, friendly and blood relations. The basis of the circle was represented by G. R. Derzhavin, V. V. Kapnist, I. I. Khemnitser. A. S. Khvostov, M. N. Muravyev, I. I. Dmitriev, A. N. Olenin, A. M. Bakunin, D. G. Levitsky, V. L. Borovikovsky, D. S. Bortnyansky, E. I. Fomin et al. were drawn towards it at different times. The formation of the Circle of Lvov and Derzhavin reflected the re-orientation of the Russian culture from strictly classical artistic principles to the aesthetics of preromanticism. Socialising among members of the circle was the most intense at the end of the 1770s to the beginning of the 1780s and at the end of the 1780s to the beginning of the 1790s. Meetings were held at the place of Derzhavin (112 and 118 Fontanka River Embankment), Levitsky (23 Kadetskaya Line, today Syezdovskaya Line) et al.
