DEMIDOV BRIDGE, spanning Griboedov Canal, along the route of Grivtsov Lane (formerly Demidov Lane - hence the name). By 1776, a wooden pile bridge existed in this location. In 1834-35, it was rebuilt (engineer E.A. Adam, with the participation of P.P. Bazen). The span was covered with slanting cast iron lined arches, supporting piers from packed rubble with granite facing. In 1954-55, the lamps were replaced with street lights, the cast iron railing with an intricate design (architect А.L. Rotach). In 1999, an overhaul was undertaken (engineer V.V. Zaytsev): relieving reinforced concrete slabs were built, waterproofing, course stone foundations were repaired, and the bridge railings and lamps were restored. Length: approximately 38.5 metres, width: 16.1 metres.
